Remediated Soil: 10,488 cubic yards (14,684 tons)
On April 9, 2008, the City of Jacksonville, in collaboration with Duval County Public Schools, requested the EPA allow the “fast-track” remediation of John E. Ford Elementary School such that the work could be completed during the summer 2008. The Remedial Work Plan was prepared and approved by the EPA on June 12, 2008. Remediation began on June 20, 2008 and was completed on August 13, 2008.
The John E. Ford Elementary School remediation consisted of the removal of approximately 10,488 cubic yards (14,684 tons) of soil impacted with ash containing lead, arsenic, dioxin and PAHs above the project remedial goals. Contaminated soil was removed to a depth of two feet within the impacted pervious areas across the site, stockpiled to undergo TCLP sampling/analysis, and properly manifested for transport to the Trail Ridge Landfill for re-use as initial cover on the landfill. The total expenditure for the remediation project was $238,318 for engineering including design, construction management and testing, environmental sampling and $797,810 for construction.
