Castaway Island Preserve is a 311 acre intracoastal interpretive center designed for public access and environmental education. This city of Jacksonville property conserves salt marshes, upland hardwood forests, wetland flatwood forests and pine flatwood islands. The preserve features an education pavilion, picnic areas, pier, island trail, additional boardwalk trail and an overlook pavilion.

In June of 2005, ETM was presented the Florida Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects Award of Honor for its role in the project.
