Education and Recreation

Three public school sites will be located within Highlands. These sites consist of one elementary, one middle, and one high school, all of which will be conveyed to the Clay County School District. Located adjacent to the planned Town Center, the schools are envisioned to provide vibrancy to the heart of Highlands. The schools are centrally located to allow for accessibility by all residents. Care has been taken to enable walkability between the schools, Town Center, and neighborhoods through the use of multi-use paths, sidewalks, and a pedestrian passage under County Road 218. The pedestrian passage will allow children to safely  walk to and from school. The proximity of the proposed high school to the industrial parcel will facilitate “learn-to-work” programs within the high school.

Adjacent to the Town Center is a 60-acre regional park providing active recreation facilities to serve the residents of Clay County. Located along County Road 218, the regional park will allow for ball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, and aquatic facilities. With its close proximity to three proposed school sites, the regional park will be an ideal location to serve as home to many youth oriented sports and recreation programs.
